Rage-quitting resentees …?
Whether you work from home, on the road, in the board room, classroom or traditional office space (is that still a THING anywhere??), chances are strong you feel life coming at you at an all-time high. Whether you run the company, manage a team or contribute as an employee, you absolutely want your voice to be heard.
So, let’s start by naming the difference between the quiet quitters & loud quitters. Consider this pithy definition from TheStreet.com:
“The key difference between ‘quiet’ and ‘loud’ quitters is that the former are ‘filling a seat and watching the clock’ while the latter are actively resentful and not bothering to hide it.”
It goes on to say, “This sometimes takes the form of complaining about the workplace to other employees, opposing instructions or, in the most extreme cases, actively sabotaging an employer's goals.”
You can use your own voice more wisely when you name your resentments (see some of the helpful tools below). No matter your team status, you can also employ social listening … or, better yet, engage with your team members directly to hear their feedback & (even more critically) share the outcomes & strategies——& timelines——to impact positive change.
I want to hear from you.
Culture & classroom tools: both-and
Edutopia is a clearinghouse of articles, resources & research, plus the latest headlines in social-emotional learning. Because it’s an outcrop of the George Lucas Educational Foundation, you can bet that the tools featured & explored have a pragmatic, real-world approach beyond the classroom. A sampling of the latest issue shares these tools that offices can copy & paste directly from schools:
peer reviews for a 360-degree performance perspective
teaching/training through “instruction, rather than telling” (a.k.a. “guided discovery,” or The Socratic Method)
using care & appreciation to build relationships in a diverse environment
mapping intentions as an organization & planning hack
Calm your nerves with “Safe & Sound”
There’s a new protocol that’s 5 hours of listening through headphones to gradually help your body desensitize & regulate to noise overload, visual over-stimulation or being “touched out.” The Safe & Sound Protocol, as it’s known, is getting pretty great reviews from the neurospicy community, so far.
