This 👇 viral video 👇 was all over my social media feed this week. And I do love it! It’s heart-warming in its own right, & extra special to me, because it reminds me of a convo when my then-3yo sat me down in his room one regular afternoon during snack time. He dubbed our talk a “mad-sation,” because he wanted to start off naming things that made us mad, then we moved (also at his guidance) to other feels we felt. (I learned from him verbatim that day, “When you don’t see me, hear me or smell me, it makes me mad.” I shared with him, “When you don’t do what I ask you to do & I have to ask you more than two times, it makes me mad.”)

What conversations are you having with kids about their own developing feelings? And also:

Do you recognize that you are learning to process & normalize your own feelings?

I can say that my convos with my now-9yo still have the same emotional triggers. But thanks to that “mad-sation” 6 years ago, we already know & respect each other’s boundaries, or what makes us feel angry at each other. That part hasn’t change. What has is how we respond, much of the time.

Susan Stiffelman, MFT, brought that awesome video above to my email inbox, as well, this week with a message titled, “Boundaries, Free Resources, & Social Emotional Learning.” (Gee, does she get me or what??)

Since we’re all learning to “get” each other around here, please allow me to share some of those resources she shared:

  • Her “Harmony at Home” Master Class

  • “Co-parenting with a Narcissist” safe space community

  • The membership program, “Parenting without Power Struggles”

Two of my favorite SEL forerunners, Dr. Gabor Maté & Dr. Becky Kennedy, sat down to talk … & recorded it for all of us to listen! Their topics are the everyday topics we all ask ourselves/each other week by week (power struggles, sibling rivalry, parenting patience … or lack of it!). But their insight is worth a 31-minute listen. Why not feed your head while you fold those socks or file paperwork, anyway?
