Does the long tail-end of winter get you itching for adventure? In what can only be described as a literal case of cabin fever——wait, no, scratch that: We are luckily fever-free in our house this week, whew! … What I’m trying to say is that we literally rented out a cabin for a nearby getaway. And I, for one, can’t wait.

In the spirit of getting cozy & being mindful as we await spring’s thaw, here are 3+ Resources for Winter Resilience.

(The plus is for paid subscribers!)

Twinkl’s YouTube channel makes screen time educational

Twinkl’s motto is, “We help those who teach.” Feel like staying indoors & doing a whole lot of NOTHING? Make nothing, something with the Twinkl YouTube channel. Check out their top picks for heroes to round out your Black History Month studies. (BONUS: Help up-level the family feed!)

How the GOATs handle the winter blues

Author Maria Popova has a stellar newsletter (that she hosts all on her own, sans platform) that I have been reading, supporting & loving for years. This gifted, deep-thinker shares The Marginalian directly to your email inbox … or via her website. Each post is a sneak peek into the mind of a genius with off-handed references to major works of art & the artists who fabricate them. Feeling existential-y? This week’s gift from the archives has how-to-survive roadmaps from the life experiences of none other than greats——poet John Keats, politician Abraham Lincoln & pop-radio boss Bruce Springsteen.

You, too, can fantasize about hopping on your Harley & leaving your troubles behind (or is that just me?) by reading about how the “Hungry Heart”/”Born to Run” writer has learned to stay in the moment & accept his own depression for what it is: a thing that sometimes comes & stays & then goes.

Practical mindfulness for parents

Parenting author Dr. Laura Markham’s Aha Parenting newsletter is always full of tips, features & articles to help families settle in with healthy scaffolding. (You can learn more, too, in her book Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids.) She shares courses, how-to’s & hosts a parenting cohort at her website. Here are my two favorite links this week to lead you into February:

  • The starting point to overcoming fear & anxiety (for grownups!)

  • 7 steps to shift your mood in the moment
